On April 11th, Italy celebrated the National Day for Organ and Tissue Donation 2025, a chance to pause and reflect on a choice that can change lives. In the first quarter of 2025, over 570,000 declarations of intent to donate were registered during electronic ID card renewals.

To date, there are 15.5 million consent registrations in the Transplant Information System. An extraordinary example comes from Verceia, in the province of Sondrio, Lombardy, the most generous municipality of 2024: out of 158 renewals, 138 citizens said yes, and only one said no.
