This year, Time Out selected the 24 most beautiful buildings in the world and, among contemporary marvels and ancient wonders, only one Italian structure made the final cut: the Pantheon in Rome. It is not the newest, tallest, or most elaborate building on the list, but it stands apart for its historical weight, architectural innovation, and continuous relevance over nearly two millennia.
Built during the Roman Empire and still in use today, the Pantheon remains one of the most visited and admired monuments in Italy and a defining symbol of classical architecture. Located in the very heart of Rome, the Pantheon is instantly recognizable for its massive portico with Corinthian columns, its rotunda covered by a coffered dome, and the circular oculus at the very top.
