President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella has awarded 29 Certificates of Honor of "Alfiere della Repubblica" to young individuals who, in 2024, distinguished themselves in studies, cultural, scientific, artistic, and sports activities, in volunteer work, or carried out acts inspired by civic sense, altruism, and solidarity.
Alongside individual achievements, President Mattarella also awarded 4 plaques to recognize collective actions by young people, which also reflect the values of solidarity, inclusion, and hospitality. "New Paths for Solidarity" is the theme that inspired the selection of the young honorees for this edition.
In recent years, the concept of solidarity has evolved, integrating new technologies, sustainable approaches, and greater community involvement. And young people, in particular, are now at the forefront of modern solidarity, which reflects a dynamic, creative, and technological spirit. A solidarity that is increasingly accessible, inclusive, and adapted to the challenges of the contemporary world.
Among the stories shared, there are those of girls and boys who decided to use their scientific and technological skills to tackle important social and environmental challenges to improve the quality of life for many people; examples of adolescents who use writing as a tool for social change, addressing relevant issues and raising awareness among their peers about the importance of culture in building a more conscious and open society; the testimony of young people active in the universal value of sports, a powerful tool that allows overcoming any physical, cultural, social, or economic barrier.
In addition to these innovative examples, there are more traditional, yet equally significant, cases – the “heroic” acts of young people, those who serve as models of active citizenship because they are committed to promoting the culture of legality, and many volunteers who work tirelessly for the most vulnerable, all sharing extraordinary stories of inclusion and resilience.
Once again this year, young people teach us that altruism, generosity, and social responsibility can make a difference by activating a multiplying effect that can turn individual efforts into a collective movement capable of generating profound changes.
Those receiving this recognition today symbolically represent only a small portion of the countless young people who strive and work diligently in daily life, contributing each day to nurturing the values that are the driving force of our society.
Here is the list and reasoning behind the new honorees awarded by the Head of State.
