The Italian government, together with labor unions and industry associations, has introduced a new non-binding operational protocol aimed at protecting workers from extreme heat. While not legally mandatory, the agreement carries significant political weight and outlines practical measures to safeguard employees in both public and private sectors—especially in high-risk industries like construction, agriculture, logistics, transportation, security, and manufacturing.
Key recommendations include adjusting work schedules to avoid the hottest hours, providing shaded or air-conditioned rest areas, distributing water and mineral supplements, using breathable clothing and heat-compatible personal protective equipment (PPE), and offering targeted health monitoring and heat-stress training.
