The first Global Grids Index, a global index on electrical infrastructure produced by Bloomberg Media, has been presented. It is a tool that analyzes the readiness of electrical grids in the ten countries with the highest installed renewable capacity. The variables measured include investments in the grids, which depend on the time needed to make connections, the size of a country’s grid relative to the level of annual investment, and the available energy storage capacity.

Germany ranks first in the list, followed by China, Spain, Italy, the USA, Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Japan, and India. Italy ranks fourth in the composite index, achieving a strong score both for the amount of investment in the grid relative to its current renewable capacity and for the investment in the grid relative to its size.
