Milan is known for fashion, design, art and incredible architecture and now… surfing. Visitors to landlocked Milan can now learn to surf at one of the world’s biggest surf parks. Wakeparadise, which opened this weekend, is a brand new artificial wave facility in Idroscalo Park, a watersports park in the south-east of the city. It provides surf enthusiasts of all abilities with the chance to ride the perfect wave and grab a bit of a cool-down in the middle of summer.
According to AFP, the park cost €1.5 million (US$1.7 million) and was a year in-the-making. It’s environmentally-friendly, operating a single-use plastic ban and uses renewable energy to pump 22,000 litres of water per second into the pool. It’s the first park of its kind in Italy and according to park president Ludovico Vanoli, it’s the “biggest in the world.”
