The number of births resulting from medically assisted procreation (MAP) continues to rise in Italy. In 2023, over 15,000 births were recorded, marking the highest number since the technique was first introduced in the country. Over the past decade, this figure has doubled.
There are now more than 16,000 babies born via MAP, including those from twin births, which, however, have significantly decreased compared to previous years. These figures do not account for those who go abroad for treatments, especially heterologous fertilization. While the exact numbers are unknown, it is estimated that thousands of people seek treatments outside the country.
