Ruggero Tita (Trentino Alto Adige) and Caterina Banti (Lazio), the two Azzurri who brought a gold medal in Olympic sailing back to Italy after 20 years (it happened in Tokyo last year) continue to dominate the Nacra 17 Olympic class for more than two uninterrupted seasons. An absolute superiority over their opponents: in the first 15 races they won 13!
The Italian pair had already won the European title and all the World Cup events this season; they have not lost a regatta since February 2020. It was a glorious last day for Italy at the Nacra 17 2022 World Championships, an event held near Hubbards (Nova Scotia, Canada). After Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti won gold one day early, Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei completed a magnificent Italian one-two with a magnificent silver.
Tita and Banti closed the rainbow event with a victory in the sixteenth fleet race and a fifth place in the Medal Race. Results that allowed the reigning Olympic champions to win these Worlds with only 26 net points.
