Seventeen Italian researchers awarded in Chicago for innovative cancer studies

Seventeen Italian researchers have received the prestigious Conquer Cancer Foundation Merit Award during the world congress of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago. Eight of them work in Italian institutions and universities, while nine are currently working abroad.

Their studies have been recognized for their “high level of interest and innovation” and their potential impact on patients: they have been awarded for research spanning breast cancer, colorectal cancer, genitourinary tumors, as well as topics such as survival and research methodologies. The Italians are among a group of 137 awardees from around the world.

The award-winning researchers based in Italy are Veronica Conca (University of Pisa and Pisa University Hospital), Chiara Mercinelli (Vita-Salute San Raffaele University), Marta Padovan (University of Padua), Martina Pagliuca (Scuola Superiore Meridionale), Gabriele Tiné (National Cancer Institute, IRCCS Foundation), Angela Viggiano (University of Naples Federico II), Paola Zagami (European Institute of Oncology, Milan), and Emma Zattarin (University of Modena).

The Italian researchers awarded who are working abroad are Elisa Agostinetto (Université Libre de Bruxelles), Michela Bartolini (University of Southern California), Filippo Dall’Olio (Institut Gustave Roussy), Pietro De Placido (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), Alberto Giovanni Leone (Chelsea and Westminster Hospital), Matteo Repetto (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center), Caterina Sposetti (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), Paolo Tarantino (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), and Guglielmo Vetere (University of Texas).
