Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner has agreed to a three-month suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. However, this is not a plea deal nor an admission of guilt; in fact, both parties recognize Sinner's personal innocence. Nevertheless, he must serve a three-month ban because “an athlete is responsible for the negligence of their entourage.”
Sinner, 23 years old and currently ranked No. 1 in the world, tested positive for clostebol in two anti-doping tests conducted in March 2024. Clostebol is an anabolic steroid that enhances athletic performance and is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). However, WADA also acknowledged that “exposure to clostebol provided no performance-enhancing benefit” to Sinner and that the tennis player bore no personal fault.
