Italian Alpine skier Sofia Goggia clinched this year's downhill World Cup title on Saturday, her fourth crown after those won in 2018, 2021 and 2022. She took the title before even taking to the slope at Kvitfijell, Norway, as her only potential rival, Slovenia's Ilka Stuhec, placed third in the provisional standing, meaning Goggia's lead at the top the standings had become unassailable.
When she did go down, Goggia notched the second-fastest time behind Norway's Kajsa Lie, who took the first World Cup race win of her career. The 30-year-old, whose honours include the 2018 Olympic downhill title, has won five of this season's downhill races, taking her total number of World Cup victories up to 22.
