In Italy, 273 food products are certified as PDO (protected designation of origin) and PGI (protected geographical indication). No other country in Europe can boast such a high number.
Adding to 523 PDO and PGI wine labels and 39 geographical indications of spirits and alcoholic beverages other than wine, we deal with a system that involves 90,000 workers in the food segment and 200,000 wine producers.
