I'm not a gin drinker. I don't like sweet vermouth. I don't like Campari. But together they form a sinister yet lovely and inspired hell-broth. Like a marriage, it's a true everlasting love. This is not a cheap date; this is not a one-night stand."
This is the great Anthony Bourdain on what is, for me, the ultimate cocktail – the Negroni (a blend of equal parts of Campari, sweet red vermouth and gin served with ice and fresh orange). I'm fond of Bourdain, not least because he once said he liked my suit – a shiny number like something Ray Liotta wore in Goodfellas – but I must disagree with him about Campari.
