Palmira is just the most recent and devastating example of the danger faced by works of art and monuments in case of conflict. The ancient Roman ruins of the Syrian city have been under the attack of the destructive rage of ISIS militants.
In the 2014 movie "Monuments Men" (starring George Clooney, Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett), works of art disappeared at the time of Hitler are recovered by a group composed of art experts and soldiers.
