Terrence Flynn has been appointed as the new Consul General of the United States in Naples. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he joined the U.S. Department of State in 1999 and has held numerous high-level diplomatic roles around the world.

Before arriving in Naples, Mr. Flynn served as Minister Counselor for Management Affairs at the U.S. Mission in Iraq. From 2020 to 2023, he led the Department of State’s Regional Syria Platform, a multi-site initiative based in Istanbul, Turkey. He previously served as Director of the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center.

From 2014 to 2017, Mr. Flynn was Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Valletta, Malta. Between 2012 and 2014, he held the position of Deputy Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in St. Petersburg, Russia. Earlier in his career, he directed the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Program at the U.S. Mission in Brazil and served as Management Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He has also completed diplomatic assignments in Malaysia and El Salvador.

In Washington, Mr. Flynn worked in the Executive Office of the State Department in both the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and the Bureau of European Affairs.

He is married to Olga Flynn, a professional interpreter and translator. Mr. Flynn holds degrees from Saint John’s University, the University of Minnesota Law School, and the National Defense University. He speaks Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
