Chianti and Upper Maremma – the portion of the Livorno province whose core lies between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci – have something in common on the real estate front: the demand for high-end second homes.

The demand is prevalently from overseas in Chianti, where the English, Germans, Swiss, Belgians and Americans have been regulars for the past 50 years; mostly Italian in Upper Maremma, where the major aristocratic families share the market with entrepreneurs, professionals and showbiz personalities, with a sprinkling of Germans, Norwegians and Swiss nevertheless.
