The Editor, with the consultation and approval of the Yearbook Editorial Board, selects papers to be considered for the Yearbook and commissions or approves other materials. He or she also identifies reviewers, and is responsible for carrying out the peer review process. The Editor and Editorial Board decide on accepting each paper, based upon a successful peer review and author response.

The Editor, as a non-voting, ex-officio member of IASA's Executive Council, helps shape the Association's programs and enhance its mission. He or she is responsible for developing and managing a publication plan that is of the highest quality, appeal, relevance, and sustainability. The Editor is also responsible for careful budgeting and for recruiting and supervising a Managing Editor responsible for the Yearbook's production and distribution.

Qualifications: Substantial experience in academic and scholarly publishing, from the acquisition and peer-review process to familiarity with current editorial and production practices. An advanced degree, doctorate preferred, in a field relevant to the disciplinary and topical focus of the Association is essential: history, literature, cultural studies, cinema and media studies, ethnic studies, sociology, or anthropology would be considered relevant disciplines. A familiarity with Italian American history and culture, its scholars and scholarship, is highly desirable. Knowledge of Italian is not required, but is also desirable. Fluency in editorial and publication programs is assumed as are strong communication and organization skills.

Term: Starts April 1, 2015, and extends for a term of three years, renewable once. This is a volunteer position, as are those of the Association's officers and Executive Council. Modest administrative budget available for costs associated with Editorial Board relations. The Editor is expected to be an IASA member, attend IASA's annual conference, and to report regularly to the Editorial Board and Executive Council on the state of the Yearbook, typically, but not exclusively, at each one of four quarterly Council meetings.
