If anyone dares compose a far-ranging 130-minute profile of the life and times of Frank Zappa, it would be William S. Preston, Esq., better known to cult movie fans as Bill from “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.”
And that’s exactly what Bill’s alter-ego, Alex Winter, has done with “Zappa,” an often fascinating career retrospective chronicling the unlikeliest of American rock stars, a living, breathing contradiction in every aspect of his 52 too-short years on Earth.
