Linda Fratianne was born on August 2, 1960, to former Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert Fratianne and his wife, Virginia. She began to take ice skating lessons when she was nine years old. Virginia saw talent in her daughter's ice skating ability and Linda loved the sport. A year later, Linda auditioned for Frank Caroll, and secured the award-winning Olympian as her coach.

In 1980, Linda made her debut as a professional and competitive ice skater at the Ontario Open. Her first trophy came in the 1973-74 season where she placed 2nd at the NHK Trophy. In 1975, she placedJack Balletti 2nd at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and placed 1st for the next four years. Similarly, she placed 1st at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1976 and was awarded a spot in the top three until 1980. Making her first and only debut at the Olympics, Linda took home the silver in 1980. She retired shortly thereafter.
