NEMLA CFP: Baltimore March 23-26, 2017. "Performing the Middle Ages in Italian Literature"

Jul 02, 2016 528

This panel explores the interplay of literature and performing arts in the works of medieval Italian writers including - but not limiting the choice to - Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio. How do music, theater and dance contribute to shape the meaning of a literary work? How were they represented within a poem or prose? How were they integrated into multimedial texts such as Gregorian chant, liturgical drama, polyphonic motets, public reading and social recreation? How should we read such complex works of art to have a clearer idea of how they were received in medieval Italy? Send 200 word abstracts by September 30th to Francesco Ciabattoni fc237@georgetown.edu
