On April 21st, the leadership of the Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD) sent a formal letter to the Charge d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Italy regarding recent changes to Italian citizenship laws. The letter advocates for mitigating amendments which among others would include allowing applicants already in process to remain eligible and extend eligibility to third-degree descendants with language requirements.
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has been instrumental in this effort, working tirelessly with a broad coalition to develop these proposed amendments. As the nation's premier Italian American organization, NIAF's leadership has been crucial in crafting solutions that respect Italy's sovereignty while protecting the heritage rights of Italian Americans.
The IACD, led by Co-Chairs Reps. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Michael Rulli (R-OH), is working with NIAF to protect the interests of 20 million Americans of Italian descent who strengthen the vital bond between our nations.
