Every July, hundreds of people flock to the Federation of Italian American Organizations of Queens' (FIAO) annual 5k Run/Walk race in the hopes of not only competing against locals from the neighborhood, but also to help fight drug abuse.
Run by President and long distance runner Joe DiPietro, the July 20 race is about a 3.1 loop on 20th Avenue in Astoria, ranging from the entrance of the Con Edison field to just past the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge and back.
