Inside Buffalo | Talk with Film Director Fred Kuwornu

Feb 06, 2013 1623

Inside Buffalo (2010), an award-winning documentary, tells the story of the Buffalo Soldiers, the all black 92nd Army Division (whose name goes back to the U.S. Indian Wars) which fought an extraordinarily brave campaign against the Nazis along the supposedly unbreakable Gothic Line in Tuscany. These American soldiers faced not only an extremely tough & cruel enemy - they also confronted ruthless racism from their own country.

It was Italian director Kuwornu's meeting with Spike Lee and his work on Lee's film, Miracle at Saint Anna, on location in Tuscany that inspired him to undertake this very personal journey of discovery culminating in this powerful documentary. Film director Fred Kuwornu will discuss the film following the screening - the film runs 59 minutes.

The SDIFF, in conjunction with Italian Studies and Ethnic Studies at UCSD and Italian Studies, European Studies and Africana Studies at SDSU, is proud to bring to San Diego this talented director and his important documentaries.
