The storybook Lincoln football season will continue in high fashion May 13 at the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club, where the organization’s third annual San Francisco High School Awards Banquet will be held. Modeled after the Downtown Athletic Club’s Heisman Trophy, Lincoln coach Phil Ferrigno and quarterback-defensive back Jovan Baker will be awarded two of the night’s biggest awards after the Mustangs went 13-0 and won the CIF Division 6-A state championship.
Baker, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior, rushed for 1,172 yards and accounted for 24 touchdowns. He added 58 tackles and four interceptions on defense, earning him the Vince Tringali football trophy, awarded to the SFIAC’s top football player. Former famed San Francisco athletes and coaches Joe DiMaggio, Kevin Restani, Stephen Negoesco, Dante Benedetti, Steve Mariucci and Angelo “Hank” Luisetti are associated with each award winner.
