It's a haunting tale of love, betrayal and forgiveness that has mesmerized audiences since its first performance nearly two centuries ago. “Giselle,” a two-act romantic ballet first performed in 1841 in Paris, will make an exclusive West Coast engagement with the Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company from July 28 to 30 at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa.
The opening-night cast will feature dancers Misty Copeland and Roberto Bolle as the leads. Bolle will perform with the Royal Ballet’s Marianela Nuñez for the July 29 evening performance and the July 30 matinee. La Scala principals Nicoletta Manni and Claudio Coviello — recently starring in “Giselle” for La Scala’s tour in China — will dance the lead roles for the July 29 matinee.
