Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Newark will hold its 135th annual feast on the weekend of July 11 to July 13 in front of the church at 259 Oliver Street. The local event has been held in celebration of Italian-American religion and culture since 1890.
Here’s what to expect this year, organizers said: “The feast kicks off Friday evening, July 11 with a healing mass led by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio at 7 p.m. Also on Friday, Tommy Vincent will provide musical entertainment. On Saturday, the feast will feature the lovely voice of Vanessa Racci. On Sunday, July 13, a solemn high mass will be held at 3 p.m., followed by a grand procession. On the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Wednesday, July 16, a Solemn High Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m., followed by a candlelight procession.”
