The Italian American Veterans Museum will host a Sept. 15 screening of the acclaimed PBS documentary “A City at War: Chicago” featuring a discussion led by one of the film’s contributors. Retired Navy Commander Joseph Troiani will give a PowerPoint presentation and field questions before the screening.
When President Franklin Roosevelt urged the nation to become “an arsenal for democracy” in the buildup to the war, Chicago answered the call, becoming a well-oiled production machine. Narrated by legendary journalist Bill Kurtis, “A City at War” is a comprehensive telling of World War II’s impact on Chicago. The one-hour documentary was aired on more than 100 public television stations across the country.
