This year’s Film Festival achieved an extraordinary milestone with a record-breaking attendance of 1,650 movie lovers, showcasing unprecedented enthusiasm and engagement. Click here for a visual journey through the best of the festival.
The exceptional attendance can be greatly attributed to the expertly curated film selection by our artistic director Tommaso Cammarano, as well as the prestigious presence of Cinecittà, and our collaboration with MSP Film Society / The Main Cinema, and other local organizations.
Additionally, the offering of $5 student tickets for all films (including a free screening at FAIR High School for Arts in downtown Minneapolis) and the increased media coverage played a vital role in elevating the festival's profile attracting a bigger and more engaged audience.
Beyond the screenings, attendees greatly appreciated the insights into cinema history and significance presented by Prof. Lorenzo Fabbri with his book Cinema is the Strongest Weapon and Prof. Pieranna Garavaso's introduction to playwright Luigi Pirandello before "La Stranezza." The Q&A sessions with directors Ivano de Matteo, Carolina Cavalli, Fabio Mollo, and artistic director Tommaso Cammarano added depth and inspiration, enriching the overall festival experience.
Movie enthusiasts were also thankful for the introduction to Ettore Scola's classic, "C'eravamo tanto amati," and the rare opportunity to enjoy Federico Fellini's iconic 8 1/2 on the big screen, whether as a first-time experience or a delightful rediscovery.
The Italian Cultural Center of Minneapolis / St. Paul and its Board of Directors wish to thank everyone who supported and attended the festival with such warm and enthusiastic participation. What a joy to celebrate Italy and film together at the movies for four days!
Thank you also to our tireless volunteers, the IFF team, the Film Selection Advisory Committee, and Knock's Creative Team who worked hard before and during the festival. Our gratitude also goes out to our generous sponsors and donors. Together, we continue to create a welcoming space to discover and enjoy all aspects of Italian culture in Minnesota.
We can't wait to share the best of current Italian cinema with you again next year!
