11/3/2015 Start Time: 2:30 PM. Center for Italian Studies - West Campus - Harriman Hall - 100 Nicolls Road - Main Entrance - Stony Brook, NY 11794. Presentation by Fred Kuwornu, Ghanaian/Italian activist-producer-writer-director, who will comment on and screen his documentary, Blaxploitalian 100 years of Blackness in the Italian Cinema.
Blaxploitalian is a documentary that uncovers the careers of a population of entertainers seldom heard from before: Black actors in Italian cinema. It discloses the personal struggle classic Afro-Italian and African diasporic actors faced, correlating it with contemporary actors who work diligently to find respectable and significant roles. More than an unveiling of history, it is a call-to-action for increased diversity and esteem in international cinema.
