Just like any good coach, Ron Nathanson was looking out for Armando Guarnera Jr.'s best interest right about the time the former soccer star graduated from Tottenville HS in June of 2015. Guarnera had options after graduating: Go to college where he would continue his soccer career or follow a dream and attempt to turn pro in Italy.
"He had a tough decision to make. It definitely wasn’t easy,'' explained Nathanson, who’s been Tottenville’s soccer coach since 2007. "He easily could have gone to college and that was the direction I was trying to point him toward because I felt he could get his education, then attempt to turn pro when he graduated.
