November 16, 2019, 12:30-3:30pm. Village of Cold Spring, New York. Italian multidisciplinary artist Marinella Senatore will direct a monumental procession throughout the streets of Cold Spring, New York, inviting the public to collaborate in a performative celebration of community.
The three-hour performance will bring together some 100 participants, featuring choreographed sequences executed by participants from diverse communities and organizations throughout the Hudson Valley. As with our Walking Sculpture performance with Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto in 2017, the collaboration affirms our mission to engage the community in our program and provide a platform in the United States for Italian artists working today.
Curated by Ylinka Barotto, the performance will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the top of Main Street (and Chestnut Street) and will proceed down to the Gazebo and the Hudson River waterfront. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
The procession is organized on the occasion of the group show Non-Places and the Spaces in Between at the Italian Cultural Institute. The exhibition, on view from October 17 to December 6, 2019, and curated by Ylinka Barotto with Chiara Mannarino, will feature a new body of work by Senatore among works of other Italian artists to offer a timely and powerful look at participation and resistance in an era of seemingly fungible truths.
