We got another opportunity to remember our friend, Matt DiStefano, as the street across from Sachem North was renamed in his honor. Today marks five years since he passed, and the corner of Smith Road and Midland Boulevard in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY is now Matthew “Dezy" DiStefano Way.
I had the honor to induct him into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, the Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame, the Sachem Hall of Honor, and MC the "Dezy Court" dedication at Sachem North, so I couldn't miss this special moment. He is a constant reminder that "We Get To" live in a special community that embraces its own, respects its teachers and coaches, and is proud of its alumni.
