“Students say they feel accepted, welcomed and valued by the Italian Club all the time,” said Renee D’Elia-Zunino, the faculty advisor for the club. “To me, this club embodies the true spirit of being a Volunteer.” This feeling of acceptance was palpable amidst the friendly conversations and comfortable Italian regalia adorning the International House’s Great Room on March 11 for the Italian Club’s Heritage Night.
The event featured a number of students and staff members sharing either their family history or, in the case of the natural born Italians, their journey from Italy to the United States. Gianna Dovell, a senior business major and the president of the club, talked about why the event was hosted and its importance.
