The Miami Heat have expressed interest in Sergio Scariolo as associate coach. Such a potential return to the NBA would list him working under head coach Erik Spoelstra. The news was revealed by Alex Molina of Eurohoops Spain on Monday, following up on a recent report on the 64-year-old Italian tactician traveling to the United States to interview with an NBA franchise.
Scariolo, 64, previously served as an assistant coach of the Toronto Raptors under Nick Nurse from 2018 to 2021. His run was highlighted by winning an NBA championship in 2019. He left the lone Canadian franchise of the league to sign a multiyear contract with Virtus Segafredo Bologna and become the new head coach of the Italian club.
