On Monday, the Denver lodge of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America held its annual golf tournament at Willis Case in North Denver, and it was named in honor of Joe Ciancio Jr.
That was appropriate for many reasons. Ciancio, the long-time manager of Denver Parks and Recreation, is an icon in the city and especially in the Italian-American community, dating back to when North Denver largely was an Italian-American enclave and a gathering point for Italian immigrants and their children.
