The annual festa to honor Santa Maria Maddalena, like almost all public events this summer, won’t be held because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Andrew Consiglio, president of the Santa Maria Maddalena Society. “We’re just having a Mass … and then some of the members are going to the society” to have a cup of coffee, he said.
The society, named for St. Mary Magdalene, the patron saint of Atrani, Italy, is located on Wooster Street. The Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church on Wooster Place, three blocks from the society at 129 Wooster St. “Usually what we do is we take the statue to the church and we take the Mass outside,” Consiglio said.
