Arrivederci, Columbus? Not so fast. There is currently a resolution before New Haven’s Board of Alder to abolish Columbus Day and replace it with Indigenous People’s Day. As leaders of the Italian-American community, we believe that everyone is entitled to celebrate their heritage and welcome the opportunity to add an Indigenous People’s Day to our calendars. However, we do not believe that this needs to come at the expense of Columbus Day.
