The local Sons of Italy Club was founded by nine Italian immigrants. They were Angelo Rich, Michael Manware, Charles Cari, Michael Maddelena, Robert Morelli, Michael DiNello, Sisto Salvatore, Vincent Salvatore and Alphonse Salvatore. They wanted to form a brotherhood of Italians and help immigrants from Italy.
The club was organized socially on Aug. 21, 1910, at 40 Liberty St. and according to land records, purchased the current location in 1916. The depression of the 1930s drained resources and, although money was tight, the club always managed to help those in need, donating to different charities and any member who needed help. The members would hold carnivals, card tournaments and variety shows to raise money.
