A small flame lolls in the glass lantern outside the new Italian coffee shop — Caffe Nero's

Inside, its fireplace blazes. The feel here on Wednesday, March 2, the first day of business at 77 Main St. is warm and convivial. The place is packed at 11 a.m., about 25 patrons chatting over coffee and pastries.

At one table among the dark wood paneling, couches and shelves of books are two friends.

They are mixing work with leisure in the new addition to Andover's vibrant downtown coffee scene that includes five coffee shops.
