It wasn’t the food that made the meal unforgettable but rather the attendees. The first Italian G7 took place from June 22 - 23, 1980, on the island of San Giorgio in Venice.

Italian Prime Minister Francesco Cossiga was the host and his dinner guests included Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Jimmy Carter, President of the United States; Valery Giscard d’Estaing, President of France; Helmut Schmidt, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany; Pierre Trudeau, Prime Ministero of Canada; Saburō Ōkita, Foreign Minister of Japan; and Roy Jenkins, the English President of the European Commission.
