Let’s discuss what a gladiator actually is (professional vs slave), how the Colosseum provided a world-renowned stage for these fights, and the various types of gladiatorial and chariot race spectacles. We explore the Roman Colosseum, unearthing its secrets and trap doors, and move on to the Roman Circus, the original horse racetrack.

About Marisa Horowitz-Jaffe

Marisa Horowitz- Jaffe has been teaching, studying and living ancient history for over 25 years. Her background includes double Bachelors degrees in Classical Roman Archaeology and Egyptology from The University of Michigan, and a Master’s degree in Art and Museum Education from Harvard University. She spent two decades working in elite NYC art museum education departments, and now enjoys bringing her own artifacts and passion to local community centers, schools and private groups.
