Micalizzi’s Italian Ice may be celebrating its 40th anniversary on Madison Avenue in Bridgeport this year, but the brand can now be found from Seymour and Monroe to Norwalk and Stamford. Owner Jay Piccirillo estimates his treats are available in roughly 100 restaurants, bars and festivals in the county. “Where we’re at now is where my father dreamed about being,” he said.

His father, Andy Piccirillo, died at the age of 38 in 1984 — just one year after he purchased the business from Sal Micalizzi, who had founded the brand more than 40 years earlier. Seven years before his death, Andy Piccirillo began selling Micalizzi’s ice out of a storefront he created in his home’s front porch, a location that still draws hundreds of customers every year.
