The Pontine Marshes, wetlands southeast of Rome, are prime for spring and summer weekend excursions. The Marshes (Agro Pontino in Italian, in the Province of Latina) are known for such beauties as the Parco del Circeo, historico-artistic gems as Sabaudia, with its 1900s Rationalist architecture, San Felice Circeo, struck on the same-named promontory, and Sermoneta, gracious Medieval borgo flocked to every May for the theatre, and world and Jazz performances it hosts during its Maggio Sermonetano.
The area also abounds with the delicious fruits of its soil: olives, olive oil, artichokes and plenty of other delicacies, all of which can be discovered and enjoyed at the local sagre or food fairs.
