Clad in a red jacket, white shirt and green pants, Louisa Cappuccia proudly displayed her heritage Sunday by wearing the vibrant colors of the Italian flag.
The 73-year-old Norwalk resident, who was born in Calabria, Italy, paid tribute to her native land at the United Italian American Day at the Heritage Wall on West Avenue, where dozens of others celebrated Columbus Day a day early.
"I moved to the United States when I was 14 years old with my family to improve ourselves, they were more chances here than at home," Cappuccia said. "It was 1955 when I moved here, so culturally it was a shock, but I got involved in the community."
One of the groups she joined was the St. Ann Club, where Cappuccia bonded with fellow Italian-Americans.
