Bridgeport's 110-year-old Columbus Day parade will be moving to Shelton, according to parade officials. They say they simply could not afford to pay the roughly $17,000 in police overtime required to run the event.
Parade officials say the city denied their request for a parade permit due to "financial considerations," telling them the city could no longer shell out for police overtime. They say it was with a heavy heart they decided to move the event to Shelton, whose mayor offered to host it without requiring payment.
