Trattoria 35 – Casual classy Italian

So this place is deep into Queens, and I mean really deep. It's so far that the subway doesn't go out there. In order to get into the neighbourhood of Bayside you have to either (a) drive, (b) take the Long Island Rail Road, or (c) take a bus. All of which would deter most New Yorkers from visiting this upper middle class area along the border of Long Island. But those who know this joint are willing to make the schlep.

Although "trattoria" is "tavern" in Italian, it certainly has an elevated ambiance with its warm lights and understated but refined style. The food evokes flavors of Northern Italy, with rustic antipasti, pizzas, and some of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. I was lucky to visit on a special day when they were experimenting with a new ravioli dish. They stuffed inside the fresh pasta ossobuco, and they served them with a rich mushroom based sauce.
