The Italian Program announces the winner of the 2020-2021 “Italian Club of Dallas” Scholarship! This year’s recipient is…Alexa Hassell, who will be spending the summer in Rome. Alexa Hassell is a current sophomore who knew what she wanted to do from day one.

Before starting her first day of classes, she walked into Italian Program Director Anthony Nussmeier’s office and declared that she would like to double major in Italian and Politics, take a Concentration (Minor) in Art History, go on to law school, and then practice in the field of International Art Law. She is only the second student in recent history to take upper-division Italian courses before her Junior year.

She is already a valued Italian-language tutor and has interned with "The Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums." In addition, she is a Resident Assistant and an accomplished figure skater, among other things. Congratulazioni!

About the University of Dallas “Italian Club of Dallas” Italian Scholarship:

Each year, generous donors associated with the Italian Club of Dallas fund a $1,000 scholarship (and in future years up to two) to be awarded to a meritorious student of Italian at the University of Dallas. In keeping with the mission of the Italian Club of Dallas, the goal of the scholarship is to promote Italian language and culture and to further the connection between Italy and the DFW metroplex. The scholarship will also help to defray the cost of study in Rome and Italy. Upon completion of the academic year in which the scholarship is received, recipients will speak to the Italian Club of Dallas–in person and/or via the Club’s newsletter Cicerone–about the ways in which the scholarship money enhanced the experience abroad.
