Nearly 14 years ago, Zapata's Mexican restaurateurs traveled north from Shreveport to carved out a wedge of business in Texarkana, Ark. And now some Italian restaurateurs are doing the same.
Verona, a soon-to-be Italian fine dining restaurant, recently took up residency at 212 East Broad St.—the former longtime site of the well-known Peking Chinese Restaurant. "We plan to open the same type of fine dining Italian restaurant that's usually found in a place like Dallas or New Orleans," said Candace Baird, the restaurant's manager. "I think Texarkana is ready for this.
