Caraluzzi’s Markets, a staple in the Connecticut community, is celebrating 75 years of family business. Founded in 1949 by Tony Caraluzzi, Sr., the journey began with a small fruit and vegetable market in Bethel, CT. After 27 years of working for Gristedes Supermarkets in New York, Tony Sr. took a leap of faith, using his life savings to purchase the Bethel Fruit & Vegetable Market on Greenwood Ave.
As the market grew, so did the Caraluzzi family’s involvement. Tony’s four sons joined the business, helping to expand the Bethel store and establishing new locations in Wilton, Newtown, and Danbury. Under the leadership of the second and third generations, including Tony Jr. and his children, Caraluzzi’s continued to thrive, now boasting multiple supermarkets and wine & spirits stores across Connecticut.
