The A Mano Pizza & Gelato food truck has officially hit the streets of Newport, serving up Neapolitan-style pizzas and calzones by owner Simone Ferrara. Ferrara, who hails from Torino, Italy, first moved to Newport back in 2010. From here, he moved to California where he worked in a pair of Michelin-star restaurants and assisted in opening two other Italian restaurants in Oakland and San Francisco.
Then he and his wife, a native Newporter, had a baby and returned to the City-by-the-Sea. Ferrara then became the executive chef at Hotel Viking for two and a half years, before starting to do pop-up dinners and private chefing in Newport, Providence and Boston. He was inspired by the food truck scene in California, and said it was his dream to open his own.
